Lake Como Wedding Venues Guide

Choosing a villa, navigating Italian civil ceremony rules.

A Lake Como wedding is one of the most photographed weddings on Earth — Villa del Balbianello's loggia, Villa Pizzo's terrace, Villa Erba's pier. The visuals are extraordinary, but so are the legal and logistical complexities. Here is what we have learned producing them.

Venue categories

Iconic private villas (Balbianello, Pizzo, Erba, Carlotta): high-impact ceremony venues. Lakeside grand hotels (Villa d'Este, Tremezzo, Sereno): full-service production with on-site catering. Boutique private villas with on-site accommodation (best for intimate weddings of 20–50).

Civil ceremonies on Lake Como

Several Lake Como comunes (Bellagio, Tremezzo, Varenna, Cernobbio) perform civil ceremonies in striking venues — Bellagio town hall, Tremezzo's Villa Mainona, Varenna's Villa Cipressi. Outside-the-comune civil ceremonies are not legal — symbolic ceremonies on private villa terraces are common for couples already legally married in their home country.

Suppliers and logistics

Florists, photographers, bands, transport (including lake speedboats for guest arrival), catering, hair and make-up. We coordinate the full supplier chain plus the multi-villa accommodation block for guests of 30+.
