Best Lake Como Photography Spots
Iconic frames and quieter alternatives.
Lake Como photographs well from almost everywhere, but the iconic spots have very specific coordinates — and the best are often empty at sunrise. Five locations worth planning a morning around:
Punta Spartivento (Bellagio)
The northern tip of Bellagio where the lake splits into three branches — perhaps the lake's most photographed viewpoint. Best at sunrise (sun rises over the eastern shore behind you) and golden hour (lights both branches).
Villa del Balbianello (Lenno)
The cinematic promontory. Photograph it from the water (private boat 50m offshore) or from the gardens looking back. Sunset gives the loggia best.
Vezio Castle (Varenna)
Above Varenna — 20-minute uphill walk. Aerial view of the entire central lake plus Bellagio and Menaggio. Best at sunrise (eastern shore lit by rising sun).
Brunate Funicolare (Como)
Take the funicular up from Como city for a 600m vantage looking south-west over the entire lake. Best at dusk.
Greenway viewpoints
Several unmarked clearings on the Greenway between Colonno and Cadenabbia give classic frame compositions of the lake with Villa del Balbianello in the middle distance.
