Lake Como Packing List

Boat days, restaurant evenings and the lake's surprising cool.

Lake Como is dressier than most lake destinations — Villa d'Este suggests jacket for dinner, and the Bellagio main street at 7pm is full of well-dressed Italians. Pack accordingly.

Wardrobe by setting

Boat days: swimsuit, cover-up, sun hat, soft-soled shoes (no scuffing the teak). Lakefront dinners: smart-casual, light jacket or dress, leather shoes. Village walks: comfortable shoes (lake-shore streets are cobbled). Cool evenings: light cashmere or scarf — even August evenings drop to 19°C on the water.

Boat-day essentials

High-SPF sunscreen, hat, polarised sunglasses, a light layer for the wind on the water, soft towel, swim shoes if the boat lands at rocky swim spots.

What to leave at home

Hair dryer (villas have them), beach towels (villas have them), heavy guidebooks (we send a digital itinerary), full beach gear (the lake has no proper beaches; pebbles or lidos only).
