Getting to Tuscany

Choosing the right airport, train and transfer for your villa.

Most travellers fly into the wrong airport for their Tuscan villa, then spend three hours in traffic. The right entry point depends on where in Tuscany you are headed — Chianti, Val d'Orcia, Lucca and Maremma each have a different optimal route.

Florence (FLR) — Amerigo Vespucci

The right choice for Chianti, central Tuscany and most villa stays. 10 minutes to the centro storico, 45–90 minutes to most Chianti and Florence-hills properties. Limited long-haul connections — most travellers connect via Munich, Amsterdam, Paris or Frankfurt.

Pisa (PSA) — Galileo Galilei

Better for Lucca, Versilia coast, the Apuan Alps and northern Maremma. More European low-cost flights than Florence. 1 hour by train or car to Florence, 2 hours by car to most southern Tuscan villas.

Rome Fiumicino (FCO)

The right entry for Val d'Orcia, Montalcino and southern Maremma — counter-intuitively often faster than Florence for these areas. Direct trains to Florence in 1h35; private transfer to Montalcino takes around 3 hours.

Trains and private transfers

Frecciarossa trains link Rome–Florence in 1h30 and Milan–Florence in 1h55. Private car transfers from Florence airport to most Chianti villas: €120–€180; from Rome to Val d'Orcia: €350–€450. We arrange all transfers with English-speaking drivers and child seats.
