Florence Day Trip from Chianti

One day, eight kilometres of walking, three masterpieces.

A day in Florence from a Chianti villa is entirely doable — but the difference between a good day and an exhausting one is timing. The city is at its best before 10am and after 17.00; the middle of the day is queues and heat.

Logistics — leaving Chianti

Most Chianti villas are 35–60 minutes by car from Florence. Park at Parcheggio Beccaria (north-east, walking distance to Santa Croce) or Parterre (north, tram to Duomo). With a private driver, drop-off at Piazza Beccaria and pick-up at the same point at the end of the day — no ZTL risk, no parking faff.

The morning — Uffizi or Accademia

Pre-book the first slot (8.15am Uffizi or 8.15am Accademia). Three focused hours is the maximum useful dose. Exit, walk to Piazza della Signoria for coffee, then Ponte Vecchio.

The afternoon — Oltrarno

Cross to the Oltrarno (south bank) for lunch at Cammillo or one of the artisan workshops. Visit the Brancacci Chapel (book ahead). Walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo or San Miniato al Monte for sunset views over the city.

The evening — back to Chianti

Aperitivo at Sant'Ambrogio market or at the rooftop bar of La Rinascente. Driver pick-up at 19.30, back to villa for late dinner. Total walking: 7–8km. Total Florence time: 11 hours.
