Private Wine Tasting in Val d'Orcia, Tuscany
UNESCO landscapes, Brunello wines and hilltop towns
The Val d'Orcia is the UNESCO-protected valley that postcards have made famous — a perfectly composed landscape of solitary cypresses, undulating golden hills, and Renaissance villages. This is Brunello di Montalcino country, home to some of Italy's most prized red wines, and the birthplace of Pecorino di Pienza. Pope Pius II rebuilt his hometown of Pienza in 1462 as the first 'ideal city' of the Renaissance — and the surrounding countryside has been protected ever since.
Wine tasting in Val d'Orcia is not a tourist activity — it is the quickest way to understand the place itself. The producers we work with are small family estates that bottle a few thousand cases a year, where the family member who pours your glass is often the same person who pruned the vines in February and pressed the grapes in October. Our concierge arranges private appointments unavailable on commercial booking platforms.
Expect to taste 5–8 wines side by side, with vertical comparisons across vintages where the cellar permits, accompanied by local salumi, pecorino and the estate's own extra-virgin olive oil. Tastings can be paired with a leisurely lunch in the vineyard, a barrel-room dinner, or extended into a full-day estate tour. Private transport with a local driver is always included so the tasting is the only thing on your mind.
